Women of the North Coast: Using oral history collections for research

Women of the North Coast is a project funded by the Royal Australian Historical Society through the Catherine Jane Livingstone History Award, which it administers. The aim of the project is to produce a book for the general reader about the experiences of women on the North Coast of New South Wales before 1939. The guidelines for the project define the North Coast as extending from Tare north to the Queensland border and out west to the Great Dividing Range. Other requirements are that a representative sample of women from a variety of geographical, chronological, social and cultural backgrounds be included and that use is made of the documentary, oral, pictorial and physical evidence of women's lives held by the local historical societies on the North Coast.
