Implementation and Field Evaluation of Location-based Nursing Record System QuickCareRecord

In Japan, the demand for nursing homes is increasing due to the increasing number of elderly people. Therefore, the burden on care work for nursing staff becomes very large. In a nursing home staff spend a large amount of time in making care reports which reduce the time for doing the essential care for residents (i.e., elderly people). Thus, to reduce the work burden for staff, the system on which staff can create reports easily and instantly is needed. In our previous work, to reduce the burden of making care reports, we have propose a location-based nursing record system, called "QuickCareRecord," which can automatically switch information input screen and its items depending on location. However, this work conducted only a limited evaluation by emulated environment. In this paper, we actually implement the proposed system by using BLE beacon and small terminal based on our previous work. To show the effectiveness of the proposed system, we carry out the experiment in the actual nursing home. As a result, we show that the proposed system can identify the care location and care recipient approximately, staff can make care records easily and accurately.
