The behaviour and design of cold formed channels in compression

This paper describes the buckling behaviour of cold formed steel columns of monosymmetric open cross section, including the influence of local buckling, post local buckling and flexural torsional buckling on column strength. The bases of those rules of the Australian cold formed steel structures code (AS 1538) which are applicable to column design are explained and an example of the design of a channel section column subjected to concentric and eccentric compression is presented (a).
