Abstract An algorithm for reducing the data volume of data gathered along lines is presented, with examples related to aeromagnetic data analysis. The technique relies on the correlation coefficient as the criterion for accepting and rejecting sample points. Correlation of the output data set to the input data set is assured within a predefined minimum acceptable correlation.
