Supporting Managerial Decisions with IDI in the Organization's Innovative Activities

Abstract • Making decisions by managers is one of the most important elements of resource management, achieving short- and long-term goals, as well as for deciding on the success or failure of any venture. Thus, the intensive development of various solutions to support decision making process has been observed, started from simple research tools and techniques (for example IDI) to advanced computer systems built on artificial intelligence. The aim of the article is to attempt to answer the question about IDI’s utility in the process of supporting managerial decisions related to innovative activities. Authors used critical review of relevant literature and in-depth interview to carried out the research in one local government cultural institution. The survey covered all persons performing top-level managerial functions, who are responsible for the decisions on innovative activities. IDI is a useful technique for supporting management decisions related to innovation activities. However the research and the results obtained revealed some shortcomings in the interview scenario itself, in particular, with regard to the scope and depth of the questions. There is undoubtedly a need to link the questions more closely to potential decision areas and anticipated alternatives, including the choice related to the managerial decision.
