Improvements of frequency utilization efficiency and transmitter power by antenna polarization switched CDMA

Portable terminals are usually tilted in the horizontal direction when in use rather than the vertical direction. When we examine this situation, if polarized waves having a large received power are used in communication, the plan is to reduce the transmitter power and improve frequency utilization in mobile communications using Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA). The authors propose a polarization switched CDMA system that communicates by using a polarization-diversity antenna as the base station antenna to switch to the polarized wave with the large received power. In this paper, we analyze the improvements in the frequency utilization and the transmitter power by using the polarization switched CDMA system and explain their effectiveness. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
