An integrated restoration application (IRA) in the ATM network

This paper proposes an integrated restoration application (IRA) in the ATM network, which combines a VP protection switching (VP PS) mechanism, a distributed restoration algorithm (DRA) and a centralized restoration algorithm (CRA) on the ATM VP level. The IRA can achieve cost-effective survivability performance inter-working with the service classes of survivability and the restoration plan. The implementation of the IRA in the Alcatel ATM test environment is presented, and the relative test results and analysis are also given. Finally, the issues of standardization are discussed.
