Navigation and communications for a deepest ocean presence

The impact of a new satellite navigation and positioning technology on deep ocean operations was witnessed in 1985. In that year, NAVSTAR-GPS (the program name for the U.S. Global Positioning System) was used to install deep ocean transponders (DOTs).
