Intelligent Control of a NASA Advanced Water Recovery System

A space water recovery system (WRS) for either on-orbit or planetary missions recycles urine and wastewater into potable and utility water. Critical requirements for such a system are that it use low power, minimize consumables required for long duration operations and run unattended in a fully autonomous mode. This paper describes an intelligent control system for such a WRS being developed at NASA-JSC. In addition to a description of the processing hardware, the paper includes a description of the hardware interface, the software architecture, task control sequences and the results of the current testing on going at JSC. An overview of a new language interface is also included.
