Cost Analyses for VBR Video Servers

Comparing techniques for storage and real time retrieval of variable bit rate video data for multiple simultaneous users, we conclude that constant time length and hybrid techniques can greatly reduce the total system cost. Of three admission control techniques, data limit admission control offers a moderate gain for a moderate increase in implementation complexity. We also applied our data placement and admission control strategies to an interleaved disk array.
