InterTrade Ireland FUSION project on alcoholic drinks innovation and enterprise

The project was unique. It involved the establishment of a new business, and it also drew on investment from experienced brewers in England. Overall the project has been a good learning experience for all involved and now at the end, the company has market tested ale and stout product prototypes, embedded knowledge of brewing protocols and well developed plans for installation of a brewery in a unique complex which will also include a pizzeria, a bar and lounge and off license. The aim of the project remained the same throughout, namely to set-up a craft brewery which will produce a range of alcoholic products (stout, lager, ales, wheat beer) that will be sold in the local area and expanded market. The project was divided into four key steps: i) successful brew a beer; ii) specify brewing procedures; iii) selling a product; and iv) developing a portfolio of beer products. All were achieved except iii) which was primarily due to a delay in receipt of planning permission for the complex referred to above. Plans are in place to follow up this project to reach the desired outcome of selling a portfolio of beer products in the on trade in the North West of Ireland
