Fairly Coexistence of LTE and WiFi: A Markov Game Framework

In this paper, we investigate the coexistence of Wi- Fi and cellular networks sharing the unlicensed spectrum. We develop an analytical model to describe the access mechanisms of the heterogeneous coexistence. The synchronous transmission behavior of the LTE-U is captured by the Markov game model. The asynchronous transmission nature of the Wi-Fi is described as the Markov environment embedded in the Markov game model. Based on the theoretical models, we propose a prediction based learning based frequency access mechanism. By gradually adjusting the access strategy, the performance of both the LTE-U and Wi-Fi networks can be ensured. Simulations shows that the proposed learning based dynamic access control for LTE-U operation is effective for overall performance enhancement and reliable fairness guarantee.
