The shuttle simulation effort

The shuttle simulation effort at Rockwell is part of the Flight Systems Laboratories, which supports testing at many different levels through its 12 major groups. The shuttle simulation involves a large digital/hybrid configuration which includes a pilot/ operator, although it is not intended primarily for training. The simulation consists of a large number of analog computers and digital minicomputers, flight deck mockup, real and simulated flight hardware, real and simulated flight computers, visual display systems, data-collection systems, and associated interfaces. This simulator can be used to test in-flight operations from main engine cutoff through orbit, deorbit, entry, approach, and landing.
