Increasing demand for seamless connectivity on mobile platforms is fueling phenomenal technological innovation in the wireless industry. In addition to second and third generation digital cellular standards striving to provide subscribers with higher data rates along with voice several competing standards like wireless local area networks (WLAN) and Bluetooth are gaining consumer acceptance as viable solutions for data connectivity. Industry is rapidly moving towards convergence of radio technology to cater for multiple communication standards on a single platform. Key technical challenges in the implementation of radio architectures for multi mode radio are presented.
