In this project, the material for national manufacture of Kaflex tool, used in Bell 407 main rotor driveshaft extraction, was determined. This tool suffered fracture on service during the B407 maintenance labours. The compressor screw of Kaflex tool was analyzed by Metallographic analysis revealed a stainless ferritic steel microstructure with 190 HV. The mechanical properties were calculated by Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics. With analytic data, residual strength curve was drawn, indicating an approach tool life time. Kaflex tool collapse was simulated with Finite Element Method. Agree with mechanical properties and microstructure, sample matches with AISI 430 stainless steel.
