Approximate equations to estimate heat flow from floors to attain desired room temperatures in a simple house

Abstract This study has derived approximate equations to estimate the wall inner surface temperature, floor surface temperature and heat flow from a heated floor necessary to attain a desired room temperature in a simple house. The equations account for both radiation and convection. Estimates from the equations were compared to experimental measurements on a model house constructed and instrumented for this purpose in Dalian City in northern China. Measurements of temperatures and heat fluxes were in reasonable agreement with predicted values given the approximations and simplifications made. Thus, the equations provide a useful tool for estimating heat flow and temperatures from floor heating of simple houses.
