Improving Genetic Algorithm for Design Optimization Using Architectural Domain Knowledge

The paper presents an improved genetic algorithm (GA) for architectural design optimization problems with offline simulation method utilizing specific domain knowledge in architecture. The method is evaluated by a case study of a nursing unit design, for which the objectives are to minimize nurses’ travel distance and maximize daylighting performance in patient rooms.
