Impulsive Sound Caused by Discharging Pressure Wave from an Open End of a Tube

When a pressure wave propagates along a constant-area tube and discharges from its open end, an impulsive sound emitted outward from the exit toward the surrounding area. During the process of reflection and radiation, the flow at open end is very complex due to three-dimensional phenomena. The purpose of this paper is to study the mechanism of generating the impulsive sound from the pressure wave. Numerical analysis is carried out for the discharge of a propagation pressure wave from an open end of a tube with a baffle plate. The process of generating the impulsive sound and the influence of the length of wavefront are discussed.
