LQG-/spl alpha/ control and its simulations for structural benchmark problems against winds and earthquakes

This paper develops an LQG-/spl alpha/ control with adjustable gain and various relative stabilities for MIMO systems. By introducing a relative stability vector and a gain parameter, the proposed active control methodology provides the property through an LQG design. The flexible relative stability of LQG-/spl alpha/ control systems is derived. It not only controls a guaranteed settling time for the system but also increases the control system robustness. The simulations of the LQG-/spl alpha/ control for both wind-excited building and earthquake-excited building benchmark problems are provided, in which ten different levels of earthquake data from four real earthquakes are used. The simulations show the good results of LQG-/spl alpha/ control with respect to the various evaluation criteria and robustness.
