Granulosa-cell tumour in a three year and a half old neutered bitch

SUMMARY An adult female Border collie exhibited a sero-sanguineous vulvar discharge associated with other oestrus signs despite sterilisation when she was 4 month old. A meticulous clinical examination and laboratory diagnosis work up based on vaginal smear, ultrasonography, serum oestradiol concentration and exploratory laparotomy lead to the diagnosis of an ovarian remnant associated with hyperoestrogenism. Histopathological analysis confirmed the presence of ovarian tissue which has degenerated into a granulosa cell tumour and after ovariohysterectomy, the oestrus signs completely disappeared. The reported case illustrates the rare possibility of an ovarian remnant complicated by the granulosa cell tumour formation in the bitch.
