Demonstration of a Synthetic Phased Array Antenna for Carrier/Code Multipath Mitigation

This work describes a synthetic phased array using an experimental setup with an antenna rotating along a circle with a diameter of 79 cm. The antenna receives GPS C/A code signals which are processed by a software receiver. Synthetic array signal processing is done with single difference correlators. The performed experiment shows that the system can reliable determine the angle of arrival of the GPS signals. Differences between theoretical and experimentally obtained signal power patters might be an indication for received multipath signals. Having demonstrated the functionality of the synthetic array, it can be used to mitigate multipath signals or to identify spoofing/meaconing signals.
