A stereo camera system for palm vein biometrics

Biometrics have become one of the most used techniques for user identification in recent years. Palm vein pattern based methods have a significant role in biometrics and one of the most reliable physiological features for identifying one person from another. We propose a method to increase the performance of the current palm vein identification systems. Our method uses a mirror to scan vein depths as well as the vein patterns using the visibility of venous blood under the near infrared (NIR) light. We use these as the input of the system to improve the performance using stereo depth information.
