Synthesis of nonuniform sparse linear array antenna using whale optimization algorithm

The whale optimization algorithm(WOA) is proposed a new bio-inspired heuristic optimization algorithm more recently. In this paper, the WOA is firstly introduced into sparse array antenna synthesis to obtain much lower peak side lobe level(PSLL). In order to verify the effectiveness and feasibility of the WOA, this algorithm is tested with sparse linear array antenna having different constraints. Compared with other evolutionary algorithms, simulation results show that the WOA outperforms other evolutionary algorithms, such as Fractional Legendre Transformation(FLT), improved particle swarm optimization(IPSO), and modified genetic algorithms(MGA).
