Computer simulation of change in personal belief systems.

This paper deals with the following questions and answers: Are models the same as theories? No. Can a computer program serve as a model of human belief systems? Yes. How do humans change their minds? We know little about it. How can models of belief systems be corroborated? By engaging the person whose belief system is being modelled in repeated on-line dialogues. Is it dehumanizing to use a machine such as a computer as an agent for mental change? No.
