The Role of Hand/Load Coupling in Strength Assessment

The limiting human subsystems for strength testing involve motivation, perception, muscular strength and biomechanics. This contribution examines the role of perception and pain as limiting factors in strength assessment. It is concluded that the body/test equipment coupling can affect both perceived effort and reported pain, and hence that considerable care should be taken to ensure correct body/test equipment fit.
