Improving access control security using iris identification

When an access control system is going to be developed or installed, the security needed in the application where that system will be applied should be studied deeply. This security environment can deny the use of passwords or PINs, due to their low level of user authentication. Therefore some systems need biometrics, but depending on the technique applied, the level of security achieved changes. A biometric system based on the human iris is presented. This techniques shows a very high level of security, due to its nearly null false acceptance rate (FAR) with a very low false rejection rate (FRR). The authors have developed a prototype that validates these results.
