Design and implementation of CORBA-based distributed platform for interactive video service

In this paper, we design and implement the distributed platform for interactive video service, which is one of the most popular multimedia information services. The platform, which is called DPIVS, is a middleware in the form of libraries that provide application programming interfaces (APIs) to the upper applications. Upper applications using these APIs can request services to the server without any information on the locations of the servers. Also, these applications can control and manage remote video streams through communication networks. The DPIVS provides directory, stream, and file services defined as OMG IDL interfaces to the client applications. These service interfaces, which are components of the DPIVS, are defined on the basis of the U-U interfaces specified in the DSM-CC standard and implemented by using the CORBA distributed computing environment.
