Distribution Network Voltage Control with High Proportion of Photovoltaic Generation

With the access of a large number of distributed photovoltaic (PV), the voltage fluctuation problem is a serious threat to power grid security and stability. In order to improve the distribution network voltage with high penetration of PV and enhance the voltage regulation ability of the distribution network, a voltage coordination control method using active/reactive power control and adjusting on-load tap changer (OLTC) tap is presented in this paper. For high and medium voltage distribution networks with large PV capacity, active control based on PI controller is used. For low voltage distribution network with small PV output, reactive power control method is adopted to ensure that the bus voltage is within the allowable range. In addition, controlling OLTC taps is as a back-up adjustment. The simulation results show that the proposed method can improve the voltage level of distribution network.
