Introduction Many people who are involved in scientific and technical education are becoming increasingly interested in educational achievements which can be obtained by using computer-based programmed instruction. In 1964 students under the direction of Professor D. L. Bitzer began developing materials and techniques to be used for teaching a basic electrical engineering network analysis course (EE 322) using the PLATO System, the computer-controlled automatic teaching system developed at the laboratory. (I) The original course material and teaching techniques were developed using traditional (tutorial) programmed instruction methods, i.e, demonstration and supervised practice.
