Abstract Readily available digital computers have the potential to significantly alter the manner in which chemical engineering students are educated. Computing software covering all aspects of chemical engineering is available and continues to grow. However, until textbooks take computing for granted and all educators are comfortable with computing and numerical methods, the widespread use of computing in education is likely to be hindered.
