Novel ultrasonic motor driver design for CubeSat reaction wheel

This paper presents an Ultrasonic Motor (USM) driver design for CubeSat reaction wheel, where it takes the limitation of size, mass and power source into consideration. It demonstrates whether CubeSat reaction wheel design is feasible to use Ultrasonic Motor. In this paper a novel ultrasonic motor driver circuit is designed base on LC resonance. This design includes innovative driver and control mechanism. Firstly, a commercial-off-the-shelf USM was chosen, and its specifications and properties were studied, then a novel driver of the USM with smaller size, fewer components and compatible with pulse-width modulation (PWM) control input was designed and constructed.
