Clipping and quantization noise mitigation in intensity-modulated direct detection O-OFDM systems based on the FHT

In this paper, we propose a cost effective solution based on low complexity selective mapping (LC-SLM) peak to average power ratio (PAPR) reduction scheme to mitigate the clipping and quantization noise in intensity-modulated direct detection (IM/DD) optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (O-OFDM) systems. We analyze the sensitivity performance of the proposed system for different modulation formats and varying the bit resolution of the digital-to-analog converter (DAC). Finally, we present the bit error rate (BER) performance for different clipping levels applying and without applying LC-SLM.
