Sustainable Drainage System Model

Chapter 30 introduces different sustainable drainage system (SuDS) models using case studies for illustration purposes. Seventy-nine and 103 sites within Glasgow and Edinburgh, respectively, were identified to assess if SuDS can be integrated into future development, regeneration, and retrofitting plans. A practical SuDS decision support model, which is based on a matrix and weighting system incorporating the Prevalence Rating Approach for SuDS Techniques (PRAST), has been developed. The findings indicate that ponds (or lined ponds) and permeable pavements are the most likely individual SuDS techniques, and ponds combined with standard swales (or shallow swales) are the most recommended combination of two SuDS techniques. A separate case-based reasoning (CBR) model compared to the linear SuDS decision support model has also been developed. The output was similar to the linear model. After studying this chapter, readers should appreciate the working principles of simple and transparent models based on weighing variables and expert opinion.
