Performance limits of nonlinear RZ and NRZ coded transmission at 1O and 40 Gb/s on different fibers

We compare single-channel systems on standard and non-zero dispersion-shifted fiber (NZDSF). Upgrading from NRZ to RZ, the transmission range is increased by 2 to 6 dB. RZ coding balances the benefits of NZDSF over standard fiber at high data rates.
