Modeling, simulation and analysis of an uninterruptible power supply

The uninterruptible power supply (UPS) has become an integral part of modern computer and communication systems to assure a continued and reliable operation by providing an uninterruptible power to such equipment. Various topologies have come to the fore recently with the advent of high frequency switching techniques. This paper considers such a high frequency operated UPS system and it is modeled, simulated and analyzed to provide insight and information for design studies. A framework for the software simulation of a class of UPS is proposed in this paper and its implementation results are given and discussed. The software structure and its implementation are included in the paper. The software is built on a modular basis to enable the simulation of various topologies of UPS that are in vogue and that may emerge in the future.<<ETX>>
