MECHANISM OF SIMULTANEOUS CONTRAST IN BIOLOGICAL VISION FOR HIGH-PASS FILTERING

Based on the comparison between the mechanism of the simultaneous contrast in biological vision and the anisotropic high-pass filtering and the analysis of the relation between the filtering performance and the angle of the edges and the orientation of the filter's long axes,an anisotropic high-pass filtering scheme on the basis of angle searching is proposed in this paper. Then we compare the new scheme with that of the gray gradient orientation from the aspects of the schemes'realization and the filtering performance. The experimental result shows that, the edge's orientation obtained with the method of gray gradient orientation is quite different from the real edge's orientation which leads to deterioration of the high-pass filtering performance, but the new scheme can greatly improve it.Different engineering application value is obtained depending on the different sampling precision in angle searching.
