System design changes are required to apply alternative refrigerants for air-conditioners. The flow characteristics inside capillary tubes varies according to the change of refrigerants. The present work proposed a design tool for capillary tubes used with refrigerant mixtures, R407C and R410A. The present model is based on the homogeneous flow assumption for two-phase flow region, and temperature gliding effect of non-azeotropic mixture was reflected. It was assumed that the thermodynamic properties of the two-phase mixtures varies linearly with quality, which made the computation much simpler. A computer program was written using the present model, and computational results showed good agreement with experimental data for R22, R407C and R410A. Also, using the present model useful engineering data for selection of appropriate capillary tube are provided. It is believed that the present model could be used as an efficient tool to design air-conditioner systems using new refrigerants.
