Evolutionary Systems for Electric Power Transmission and Allocation

Extremely competitive situations in the power sector have dictated the efforts of electric power industry towards the application of state of the art intelligent computational approaches, particularly in the area of Electric Power Transmission and Allocation (EPTA). These techniques include Expert System, Fuzzy Logic, Genetic Algorithms, Simulated Annealing, Evolutionary Programming, Particle Swarm Optimization and Artificial Neural Networks. In the electricity sector, intelligent techniques are being applied to many areas particularly in allocation of facts devices, power system stability, economic load dispatch, fault diagnosis and optimal capacitor placement. It has been proved in many literatures that an approach based on intelligent methods are outperforming traditional methods. This paper describes some of these techniques strengths and limitations and shows how to build a number of intelligent Electric Power Transmission and Allocation. Keywords— Economic Load Dispatch, Genetic Algorithms, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Deregulation, Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Electric Power Transmission and Allocation (EPTA)
