Automated Decision Making and Personal Data Protection in Intelligent Tutoring Systems: Design Guidelines

Paper aims to combine Informatics with Legal Science, in mapping specific areas of conflict between personalized educational applications and GDPR, addressing shortfalls and providing applicable solutions, in the form of guidelines to developers. Attention is focused on Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) under the light of specific GDPR requirements for lawful and transparent Automated Profiling and Automated Decision Making. For this purpose, a self-designed Fuzzy Logic equipped ITS paradigm is utilized as test bed, facilitating the assessment, testing and passing of theory into practice.
