Les enseignements d'une géographie des finances locales dans l'aire métropolitaine de Toulouse

The lessons of a geography of local finance in the Toulouse metropolitan area. A study of the relations between the metropolitan development of Toulouse, the capital of Midi-Pyrénées, and the finances of the communes in the urban area. The economic development of the urban area is far from being homogeneous, and it has favoured certain communes which enjoy considerable resources, while others, which are too exclusively residential, are in a more difficult position. There is also a strong opposition between the central city and the suburban cities. The analysis of financial data underlines this double process. In a context of competition between great urban areas, the logic of competition between the central city and the suburban cities, which are the starting point of these new peripheral centres, can weaken the power of attraction of the regional metropolis and slow down its economic development.
