The purpose of a HILS (hardware-in-the-loop simulation) system is to alleviate limitations on time and space of actual vehicle tests, and to verify performances of prototype hardware and controller. The previous HILS system developed in our laboratory was not able to realize actual wheelset velocity of a railway vehicle. In this paper, we realize wheelset velocity of the HILS system using a servomotor with a pole wheel and a speed sensor. We use the pole wheel and the speed sensor which are used in the actual railway vehicle, whereas we use a small-size servomoter which generates the same speed with the actual wheelset of the railway vehicle. The pole wheel is a kind of gear attached to the wheelset in the railway vehicle. Pulse signals are generated by the speed sensor when the pole wheel rotates, and then the target computer computes the velocity of the wheelset of the HILS system. The performance of the designed system is tested by experimental works using a predefined scenario.
