Development of a projection independent multi-resolution imagery tiles architecture for compiling an image database of Pakistan

Satellite imagery has found vast applications in a number of diverse fields, which include sophisticated geoscientific mapping, real time defence applications and simple vehicle navigation and tracking. In most of these applications the end users require a final image product which has been orthorectified and georeferenced according to their desired projection system. In addition the image resolution also varies according to the regional scale, detail and scope of usage. To fulfil the needs of a broad range of users, there must be a complete imagery database. This paper presents a software library, with a rich set of functions, to create a multi-resolution tiles based imagery framework and render the tiles with respect to commonly used projection systems. An application has been developed over this library to compile and manage a detailed image database of Pakistan.
