Electric Wheelchair Simulator for Rehabilitation of Persons with Motor Disability

This paper presents the development of a driving simulator for electric powered wheelchairs (EPW). The aim of the project is the evaluation of the abilities of a person to drive an EPW. The evolutions of the system of simulation were described (first and second version of the simulator). The most important modification concern the replacement of the display system made of 2 wide screens by a hemispherical display system which allows a 110 degrees FOV. Also the last experiments are briefly described, which conducted to the definition of qualitative and quantitative evaluation criteria. These criteria appeared to be efficient when properly combined.
