FINAL REPORT AND THE CONFERENCE SUMMARY, SECOND CONFERENCE ON MOBILITY AIDS AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION MARCH 16-17, 1992, PORTLAND, OREGON

The topics of this conference included a discussion of the ramifications of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Disability Rights Legislation, and Project Action. The major focus was on operational and training issues related to accessible public transportation. The main points consisted of the following recommendations: a) that persons with disabilities and operators be involved with the development and implementation of the training programs; b) that all transit staff benefit from sensitivity training, and that all the training concerning persons with disabilities should involve all the transit staff; c) that transit operators be recognized and rewarded for outstanding performance towards persons with disabilities; and, d) that marketing programs reflect a diverse population.
