Design of Small Hydro Generation Systems

The most useful source of electrical energy generation in the world is hydroelectric plants, which produce almost 16% of the world's consumed energy. Small hydro generation units are considered as an attractive power source taking into account significant advantages such as removal of lone transmission loss, pollutant gas emissions, and reduction of peak demand. In this chapter, an overview of small hydro plants in terms of fundamentals of the hydroelectric system with the consideration of various types of hydro power system and components is presented. Additionally, technologies of hydro power systems and most common utilized turbines and design basics for SHPs are provided in this chapter. Additionally, economic analysis of small hydro generation systems is introduced. For realization of the mentioned contents of the chapter, a variety of examples are prepared and solved.
