Waveform design based on J-divergence for MIMO radar detection

This paper considers the waveform design problem for MIMO radar in order to improve the detection performance. We assume that target echoes are embedded in signal-dependent clutter and colored noise. Considering that transmit waveform design directly based on detection probability is not feasible, therefore, we employ an information-theoretic criteria, namely, J-Divergence as the metric for waveform design. The waveform optimization problem associated with J-Divergence is established with equal power constraint on transmit antenna elements. Lagrange multiplier is used to solve the optimization problem, then the closed form of optimal waveform for target detection is obtained. Several numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
