Abstract The design, fabrication, characterization of the first jetting dispenser driven by giant magnetostrictive material (GMM) are presented. This type of jetting dispenser could be applied in the fields of semiconductor and LED packaging. The dispenser is driven by a GMM rod, a lever with flexible hinge (flexible beam) and a spring. The experimental demonstration of the dispenser is also presented. The result of the experiment shows that the dispenser can jet 1.5 Pa s viscosity glue steadily in the room-temperature conditions, and the highest work frequency achieved was 250 Hz.
