Study on Micro Ultrasonic EDM of Shaped Holes

After analyzing several machining methods of the shaped holes the micro ultrasonic EDM is presented. The key technologies of micro ultrasonic EDM system are intensively studied. The theoretical analysis and the experiments show that the ultrasonic vibration has an obvious effect on increasing the efficiency and accuracy of EDM of shaped micro holes. In addition, the idea of "equivalent machining area" is brought forward first and many experiments have been done based on the mathematical inference and calculation for it. The experiments show that the idea provides the reliable theoretical and practical foundation for selecting the machining guiding rule of shaped micro holes. The machining efficiency and accuracy of shaped holes could be maximumly increased when selecting the machining guiding rule according to the calculation of the equivalent machining area.
