SUDDEN cochlear deafness or acute cochlear failure is now receiving considerable attention in otological literature. The publication of Wilmot (1959) on the subject may be regarded as representative. In view of the acute nature of onset, the most usually expressed opinion of its aetiology invokes a vascular basis. The writer has recently been concerned with a case of interest with features which appear to support this contention.
