Application of the material-independent PML absorbers to the FDTD analysis of electromagnetic waves in nonlinear media

To more accurately and effectively simulate waves propagating in nonlinear media with the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method, a material-independent perfectly matched layer (MIPML) absorber is proposed. Within this absorber, electric displacement D and magnetic field H are directly absorbed, whereas electric field E is simultaneously absorbed through the relation of D and E. It is shown that, with the help of this MIPML absorber, Berenger's PML can be simply and effectively extended to nonlinear media. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
